ICQ- I eek you ( hledám tě) je světově nejrozšířenější komunikační nástroj pro online komunikace - instant messaging mezi uživateli připojenými k internetu vyrobý izraelskou firmou Mirabilis v roce 1996. Využívá ho přes 150 milionů uživatelů ve 250 státech. Součastným vlastníkem je firma AOL, která v roce 1998 koupila firmu Mirabilis za 287 milionů dolarů.

Komunikace mezi uživateli probíhá narozdíl např. od emailu v reálním čase, zprávu vidí příjemce ihned a je také schopen okamžitě odpovědět. ICQ umožňuje zasílat textové a hlasové zprávy, URL, celé soubory, navštívenky, umožňuje chat, telefonování na pevné a mobilní linky po celém světě, kromě psaných zpráv můžete také komunikovat hlasem, obrazem. Pomocí tzv. Xtra z extra doplňků si můžete s ostatními ICQ on-line uživateli zahrát hru, stahovat hry do mobilu a další. Nevýhodou je, že komunikace není šifrována.

UIN je zkratka z Universal Internet Number nebo z Unified Identification Number, které po registraci obdrží každý uživatel ICQ. Na rozdíl od jiných instant messengerů je v ICQ jediná stálá a neměnná informace je číslo UIN, vyhledávat uživatele lze přes e-mail, nick, jméno, příjmení a UIN. Nick se dá změnit vždy bez registrace.

Jako reakci na zvětšující se počet krádeží atraktivních nebo krátkých UIN hacker, ICQ začalo ukládat emailové adresy dříve spojené s UIN. UIN byly kradeny phishingem nebo metodou brute force, původní majitelé se ke svým UIN mohli dostat dokud hackeři nezměnili emailovou adresu přiřazenou k UIN.
